Dr. Bessie Nelson, aged 88, peacefully transitioned from this life to her eternal reward on June 16, 2025. She is survived by her beloved husband, Bishop James D. Nelson, Sr., and four devoted children: gospel recording artists and twins, Jonathan Nelson and Jason Nelson; James D. Nelson Jr.; and their daughter, Janice.
Jonathan Nelson serves as the Senior Director of Worship at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA, while Jason Nelson is the Senior Pastor of The Tabernacle at Greater Bethlehem Temple in Baltimore, MD. Bishop James D. Nelson Jr. leads Destiny Christian Church in Baltimore, MD. Her husband, Bishop James D. Nelson Sr., is the founder of World Assemblies of Restoration in Maryland. Together, she and Bishop James D. Nelson, Sr. shared over 60 years of marriage.
Dr. Bessie Nelson was renowned for her steadfast faith, strength, and love. She was not only the spiritual cornerstone of her family but also a beacon of hope for many in the community. Her legacy of faith and commitment continues through her children and all those fortunate enough to have known her.
A viewing will take place on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Tab, located at 8334 Liberty Road in Randallstown, Maryland. On Monday, June 30, 2025, a homegoing celebration will occur at the Church of the Redeemed of the Lord, 4321 Old York Road, where the family will welcome friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the service. The interment will be at King Memorial Park.
