A verdict was delivered on Thursday afternoon (6-19-2025) for a man facing trial for the murder of a Pageland mother. Emanuel Bedford was found guilty of killing Deidre Reid in September 2021, with prosecutors stating that her body has never been recovered. The jury reached a unanimous decision, convicting Bedford of both murder and grand larceny. He received a life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole.
Originally, Bedford's trial was scheduled to commence in April, but it was postponed due to an insufficient number of jurors. He has maintained his innocence regarding all charges in this case. Bedford chose to defend himself against the allegations of murder and grand larceny.
The courtroom was filled with emotion as many of Reid's relatives wept upon hearing the verdict. They expressed to WCNC Charlotte that the decision provides their family with both closure and a sense of justice.
For the murder conviction, Bedford was sentenced to life in prison without parole, along with an additional five years for grand larceny. He was credited with 748 days served for the grand larceny charge.
Reid was last seen alive on September 3, 2021. According to her family, she was driving Bedford to the Greyhound bus station in Charlotte when she disappeared. Reid's sister mentioned that she intended to meet her in Charlotte but never received any communication from her sister.
Justice has been served. Long LIVE Deidra Reid!
