The Caraway Foundation was established in 2007 by Angela Caraway during a grocery shopping trip at Kroger in Garner, North Carolina. While shopping, she perceived a voice urging her to purchase backpacks. Initially, Angela dismissed the voice and continued with her shopping, but it repeated its request, insisting she buy all the backpacks. Despite the unusual nature of the experience, Angela felt compelled to follow the voice of God, believing it to be a divine message. Upon returning home, she documented the vision for The Caraway Foundation and began organizing its inaugural event, a seminar focused on College Preparedness. Since then, Angela has dedicated herself to securing funding and developing impactful programs for the community.
The Caraway Foundation actively seeks partnerships both locally in North Carolina and beyond, recognizing the importance of collaboration for a rural non-profit organization. These alliances not only benefit the Foundation but also enhance the services provided to the community. Building connections is essential to advancing their mission, and they appreciate their existing partnerships while remaining open to new collaborations.
The leadership team includes Angela Caraway as Executive Director, Kendra Bu Cannon as Operations Manager, Kelly Holcombe as Digital Navigator for the NCDIT Digital Champion Grant, Sarah Burns as Outreach Director, and Tish Womack as Project Director.
The Caraway Foundation offers resources aimed at assisting students with their educational requirements and supports individuals who have faced or are currently dealing with chronic illnesses by supplying health-related resources. The Foundation organizes a range of programs annually, all aligned with its mission to deliver educational tools and health awareness resources to residents of Anson County and nearby regions. The available programs include the Anson Youth Leaders Academy and the Village of STRENGTH.
Angela remains committed to seeking divine guidance in all endeavors, as reflected in the organization's guiding scripture: 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.' (Proverbs 3:5 through 6)
